DragonCon 2013

Convention: DragonCon
Location: Atlanta Ga.
Date: Aug. 30th - Sept. 2nd
Webpage: http://dragoncon.org/

DragonCon is a yearly event for me. I love this convention. There are so many dedicated fans, and industry that travel to Atlanta every year just to come to DragonCon.

If you have never been to DragonCon and are thinking about going, definitely ask some people you know who have gone. There are so many amazing costumes and people there, but that also means there are lots and lots of people. This never seems to bother me, but had I not known to expect it when I first went to DragonCon, then I may have been a little overwhelmed.

This year (like most years) had lots of amazing guests. I was most excited for John Barrowman (Capt. Jack <3), his sister Carole Barrowman, Peter Davison (which The Girls Who Waited were lucky to sit in on an interview, link at the end of the article), Sylvester McCoy, George Takei, as well as many others.

Friday at DragonCon was incredibly interesting, my travel companion had an infected tooth, so sadly I did not get out onto the convention floor until that afternoon. However once I did, I participated in a CNN article about cosplaying (sadly did not make the article, but went in my Wonder Woman cosplay for it), looked around at all the amazing costumers, and handed out lots of cards for The Girls Who Waited.

Saturday was a lot more fruitful for me, I got out early to attend the Sylvester McCoy press conference (sadly it was cancelled), Sat in on, on two panels, a British Costuming Panel, and a Doctor Who Cannon panel. Both of which were marvelous and I was so happy to be apart of them!  Was also happy to be the only female on the Doctor Who Cannon, which I am happy they had a ladies view represented on the panel, since there were six panelists on it. I then attended a few photo shoots (the League of Legends Photo shoot). Then later that night I attended the Troma panel, which is always fun to see the movie clips as well as some of the how to make a movie style clips that they film.

Sunday I was up early to do a photo shoot, one of the photos will be part of the book "Breaking all the Rules: Cosplay and the Art of Self Expression" It will be out in November, and a few of the images used were taken at DragonCon or around the hotels at some of the scenic areas!
Once I was finished with the photoshoot, I went and got some of my ElfQuest books signed and talked with the Pini's for a bit, they are fascinating people and incredibly nice! I really hope that they are invited back next year, especially with the new ElfQuest comic being released by Dark Horse (I was unable to make it into their panel due to the sheer amount of people attending).

Monday I sat in on the British Fans on the Net panel, happy to not be the only female this time, since half the panel was ladies! It was incredibly fun to talk about getting into youtube/podcasting, and hear how others also got into it as well as what equipment they use and how they plan their filming/recording of their shows. The panel was filmed and will be put up on Earth Station Ones podcast as their DragonCon coverage in the next few months. I then ran over to the main hotels (since it was raining a bit) and shot a Girls Who Waited episode with Lydia, wish we could have shot more together, but between her working and me covering the convention and being on panels, our schedules just did not meet up.

Once all my panels were over I headed back over to the dealers area, which I was unable to look through when I got the Pini's autographs earlier. The dealers room was well laid out, but still a bit hard to find since it was in a new location this year, I will say I miss it being in the hotels. I was able to check out the Bruteforce Studios booth, which always has lovely leather items. The Troma booth, the Fine booth, as well as many others, it is always interesting to see what dealers have each year.

Then it was back to the hotel to get our bags and head to the airport! A wonderful time and a wonderful convention! Cannot wait until next year!

I want to than the DragonCon Media Relations for allowing The Girls Who Waited attend as press this year!

Bones Kickstarter finally here!

So after a long, long wait, the Bones Kickstarter box is finally here!! I went in with a group of people to pledge for this kickstarter about a year ago.  I very much wanted the clockwork dragon and a few other small minis! The kickstarter ran from July 23, 2012 - August 27 2012. They raised over 3 million dollars to put their plastic minis in production! Super amazing that it did that well and they had such a response from the gaming and miniature painting community!

A large box about ten in a half pounds showed up on the door step today!

Very excited and very ready for it we opened it!
(So magical!)
There were so many little bags and boxes inside the box, including one big one (which was the pledge level we all took, the Vampire level)
(In its own pretty box just incase we forgot, how spiffy is that!)
Then we opened up the vampire box to see all the pretties inside of it!
(Can't wait to get painting and playing!!)
We also had a crap ton of add-on minis as well!

And a bit closer look at the Deep Dwellers and the Mythos Monsters

Very excited for the new miniatures! (Clockwork Dragon!!!!) It took just under a year for them all to get to us, which with how many they sold and the productions of all these minis, that is pretty darn awesome! Cant wait to actually get a better look at them all and see just how the plastic over the metal reaper minis look!

Helena's Chocolate Cafe and Creperie

So occasionally I will post about some of the awesome places I go. I was lucky enough to make it to Helena's Cafe, which was a lovely restaurant with Crepes, deserts and FRENCH MACAROONS!!! (Which was the entire reason I went there).

They had so many different flavors of French Macaroons (maybe 10 or so). Most of the places around me that I have found them at, always have generic flavors such as, Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, etc. However there were lots of fun flavors such as cinnamon, mint chocolate, rose and lavender. So I was super excited to try all of them!

I settled on six of the different flavors, they were all so yummy looking, and all such lovely colors!

From Left to Right: Mint Chocolate, Lemon, Lavender, Cinnamon, Rose, Chocolate Gauche.

And they tasted wonderful! They were like heaven in my mouth! And nothing like the sorry excise of French Macaroons I had tried to make a few months ago.

Also a few stores down was a wonderful noodle place called Ishii.I absolutely love Asian food, and noodle dishes, so I was excited to eat dinner here! I had Midori Curry Noodles. It was spicy and very tasty.

They do not have a webpage or facebook page, but are located at 54 W High St. Carlisle, PA 17013

Metamorphose Summer Lucky Packs 2013!!

As many of you know, I really like wearing poofy skirts and lolita clothing. Well, since actual Japanese lolita brands are incredibly expensive, I always keep an eye out for lucky packs that most companies do in the summer and winter.

In a few hours Matamorphose temps de file will put their summer lucky packs on sale.

They are 8400 yen, which is less than they were last year. This years comes with a skirt, t-shirt, bag, socks and some bows. They don't have the blouse or bloomers (I believe) like last years, but I can handle a little variety. I am hoping the t-shirts are not super small.  They also have it so you can pick dark or light for the skirt color. I love my off white skirt I got last summer, but I do wear a lot of darker colors, so it is nice getting to choose between the two.

I am super excited since I like the surprise of the skirts print, and they have type writing squirrel as the example so that is more than enough reason to order one! (however I own two pairs of Meta socks, and am hoping I don't end up with the exact same color socks, lol)

Another 100 Horrors!

On Friday the anthology "Another 100 Horrors" came out! This anthology has 100 authors in it, and each story is 100 words long! My story "The Bridge" is included in this anthology, making it my second story to be published!

I was incredibly happy to get into this anthology since trying to write a story in 100 words was a fun challenge! I cannot wait to read all the other stories in it!

RavenCon 2013

Convention: RavenCon
Location: Richmond, Va.
Dates: April 5th-7th
Webpage:

This was my second RavenCon that I had been too, which is strange since the convention is only an hour away from my hometown. I had known about RavenCon for years and had wanted to attend it, but for some reason it never worked out. Last year I just attended the con as a regular attendee . However this year I was invited as a costume guest, so I was very excited to get to do panels and be part of the convention!

I arrived Friday afternoon after a long week of filming Zombie Babies 2 in West Va. (and a quick stop the day before to visit my grandmother in Charlottesville)  It was nice to get to sleep in on Friday and get lunch with my Grandmother before driving to Richmond.  I got to the convention hotel (which funny enough is the same hotel that Anime Mid Atlantic used to be in when they were in Richmond). Got my badge and headed straight for the "Game of Thrones" panel that I was on.  I had a blast nerding out about Game of Thrones with other people.  I then found some of my friends, we got some snacks in the con suite and headed to the opening ceremonies. (also found Carla and gave her the TARDIS scarf I had made her).   For the remainder of Friday I hung out with friends, got some yummy Mexican food with Laina, Danny and Allegra, and then hung out at the room parties.

Saturday I got up and got dressed in my Peter Pan Lolita skirt and went to my signing. I had fun just sitting there and talking to people, I sold one book (thank you David Lee) while at the convention, so that is an accomplishment! I then went back to the room and changed into Oswin Oswald since Kara was wearing her 11th Doctor cosplay.  Signed up for the costume contest. The lovely girl in the con-suite gave me two of the little gears they had on the table, which became part of my makeup I did for the costume contest.

Convention: Mysticon
Location: Roanoke, Va.
Date: February  22nd-24th 2013
Webpage: http://mysticon-va.com/

Mysticon is a lovely convention in Roanoke, Va. in late February   I was first invited to it as a costuming guest in 2012.  I had a blast and was so happy they invited me back for another year!  I was so thrilled that their media guest of honor was Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor from Doctor Who!  I was also lucky enough to get to interview him (thank you Carla <3 ) for the YouTube show I am on called The Girls Who Waited.

Here is the video of the interview, please check it out, and if you are a fan of doctor who and  scifi/fantasy genre, then please check out the other episodes of The Girls Who Waited!

Also make sure to check out Mysticon's page for their updates about guests for their 2014 convention! (Held on February 21st-23rd, 2014) They have already announced some great guests including Todd McCaffrey!!
